Pesto Basil

Sweet Basil. St. Joseph’s Wort. Ocimum Basilicum. Genovese Basil. Delicious. Whatever you call it, this popular variety of basil is a fragrant and flavourful herb that is most commonly found in its own saucy paste-type dish, pesto, which pairs beautifully from everything from pastas and pizzas to fish and even as a dip for breads and crackers.

Beyond that delectable dish, basil can also be dried and ground for use in rubs, or in combination with other dried herbs and spices, like thyme. Similar to parsley, basil can also play double duty, as a colourful garnish, atop soups, drinks, and even desserts!
